For You, Mama, on Mother’s Day
A simple speck of a beating heart—
Adorned and loved with grace—
Brought up with love and comfort,
Raised through a tender pace.
Gifts of life and survival,
Never falling too far behind,
Fuel their given dependency,
And their peace of mind.
Soon, sweet nudges off the great big nest
Prove growth is right on track;
Sprouted flight, but lurking reluctance:
‘Please, must I come back?’
She mutters with tears, ‘Baby bird,
Today is your day.
With both faith and fright,
I send you away.’
Off to new heights
With an uttered farewell.
Fly away, baby bird;
Your mama’s raised you well.
